Equipment Prefix form
The Equipment Prefix form enables you to add and edit equipment prefixes (on page 1). Container numbers following the ISO standard consist of a four-character prefix, followed by a six-digit number and a check digit.
Use this form to manually add equipment prefixes or use the Actions Copy Reference Set (on page 1) option to copy equipment prefixes defined in an existing entity set.
To add or edit an equipment prefix:
In the Equip Prefix field, enter a four-character equipment prefix.
From the Equipment Class drop-down list, select one of the following equipment classes:
Container
Chassis
Semitrailer
Mafi
Accessory
Optionally, in the Owner ID field, enter the ID of an organization, such as line operator or shipper, that must be treated as the default equipment owner.
When you add a new equipment with the specified equipment prefix, N4 displays the organization as the default owner.
The specified organization must exist in the system.
From the Check Digit Algorithm drop-down list, select one of the following check digit algorithms:
Standard
Happag Lloyd HCLU containers
11th character is just part of the unique ID
For more information, see ARGODOUBLEBLIND003 (CHECK_DIGIT_CORRECTION) (on page 1).
None
N4 uses the check digit algorithm to verify the check digit for a container number for all gate operations, such as booking, pre-advise, delivery, and receival, and when renumbering a container. For more information, see Equipment Prefixes view (on page 1).
If you want to allow a gate clerk to receive a container with a different check digit from what is in the container record, you must set the Check Digit Algorithm as None.
If you change the Check Digit Algorithm after adding containers to your database, N4 does have an extended search mechanism for locating containers that either no longer use a check digit or have started using check digits.
